Does Being a Tough Leader Mean You Have to be an A-Hole? Why I DON’T Hate Donald Trump.

“Whatever happened to the strong, silent type?” — Tony Soprano, talking about Gary Cooper.

So, as my political affiliations go, I would say I lean more towards the conservative side. The GOP. Small government. Pro-life, for sure. The party that freed the slaves. I’ve pretty much made up my mind about the big core issues the political parties stand for, and like I said, I lean towards the right. I have to be honest, one of the biggest reasons I have voted for the Republicans is I like a strong, tough guy leading America. An alpha-male, who doesn’t take $h!t from anyone. No nonsense, no pansy-ass “Mr. Nice Guy”. There, I said it.

When I think of the best president to lead the free world, I want a strong John Wayne cowboy-type. Someone like my Dad. Hard-working, a rock! So, what’s wrong with that? I want to feel secure and protected. I want someone in there who isn’t going to be a “doormat”, and be taken advantage of by foreign countries who want to take our freedom and liberties away. I don’t have one ounce of guilt for thinking the way I do. So, all you haters out there are wasting your time if you think you’re going to change my mind.

However, I do have one question. Does being tough and resilient mean that I have to be an A-hole? Can I want peace, tranquility and just to be left alone and still be tough and assertive? Can we ever really have both in our lives? Can we have the toughness, assertiveness and conviction that is needed to uphold our beliefs and still be an instrument of peace? Will it give us what it takes to get things done?

I respect Donald Trump as a self-made man and as a leader. As Kid Rock says, “It ain’t cocky if you can back that $h!t up!”. And I know he has had to put on a “Mr. Tough Guy” persona to get things done. He can’t show any weakness or the jealous hater sharks will devour him. Just ask Sleepy Joe Biden. He’s weak and it shows. But do I HATE Joe Biden? Absolutely Not! Hate should have nothing to do with it.

I believe a lot of the hate comes from people who resent Trump’s success. They don’t like the way he made his fortune and built his brand, the American dream, the pursuit of happiness. They don’t like the “tough” guy, the a-hole.

They want him to “share his feelings” and sing “Kumbaya” with them. They want him to empathize with them and coddle them like babies. Well, he’s not going to do that, and that’s not what we need in this country. We need the tough guy! We need the a-hole! We need a president to roll up his sleeves and have enough gumshion to move this country forward!

I guess what I’m trying to say, is YES! I believe you can have convictions and still sue for peace. It shouldn’t be about the emotions of love and hate. It’s about who is strong and who is weak. As the good book says (or the Byrds) whichever you prefer:

To everything, there is a season,
And a time to every purpose, under heaven,

A time for war, a time for peace…
A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late.

It’s time to be strong and protect those who are weak and want to be helped. It is time for the strong silence and put away the hate. It is time for nature to do it’s thing and run its course. Now is the time for peace. From a place of peace comes great strength.
